In April 2023, after months of planning, we were ready to film a trailer that would introduce THK to the world! Sander Stuart, violist of the Vision String Quartet and creative extraordinaire, generously offered to help us with the production of the trailer and performance videos. We gathered together one chilly spring day in Tonhain, which is still under construction and thus had no heat, and started to film.
When we launch our first season, we will be joined by several guest artists, including pianists and other non-string players, but for now, we have four cellists, one violinist, and one violist. Because you can never have enough cellists, right?! But for the trailer filming process, this instrumentation did present a bit of a challenge.
We decided to film performances of two cello quartets, one short and sizzling movement “In Lydian”, composed by our very own Leo Disselhorst, as well as the beautiful Grützmacher-Wagner “Feierliches Stück”. Then Luke and Rainer recorded the last movement of Honegger’s Violin-Cello Sonatine, and Luke, Friedemann, and Ben recorded the last movement of Milhaud’s Sonatine à trois.
We spent nearly 13 hours in Tonhain (PHEW), recording the performances, rearranging the space and lighting with Sander to take full advantage of the post-industrial Berlin vibe of the construction site, and giving short interviews about THK. We hope you love our trailer!
